The work is about a feeling of being too aware of your own skin; it is a hyper awareness of your own body. The work is not about body consciousness as in body image, but body consciousness meaning being aware how your body actually feels. This feeling of literally wanted to get out of your own skin comes from my ADD and until I was treated for it I experienced this sensation daily, I wanted to stretch my own skin in order to feel some sort of freedom. It is as if the only way to release all of this energy is to somehow break out of your own skin and any sort of movement around you or outside contact only amplifies this sensation. I want to translate the feeling I get to the viewer via my painting, when looking at the work they will get a feeling of itching to get our, or if anything simply feel some sort of anxiety or discomfort. The work will visually create sense of anxiety in the viewer and a hyper awareness of the viewer’s own skin and it’s confinement. This sense of confinement in your own body will be created by the juxtaposition of paintings side by side, one an abstraction only using color and the other a figurative work utilizing the same color pallet.
